Catechesis

Catechesis is the act of handing on the Word of God intended to inform the faith community and candidates for initiation into the Church about the teachings of Christ, transmitted by the Apostles
to the Church.

Catechesis also involves the lifelong effort of forming people into witnesses to Christ and opening their hearts to the spiritual transformation given by the Holy Spirit.

“Since parents have given children their life, they are bound by the most serious obligation to educate their offspring and therefore must be recognized as the primary and principal educators. This role in education is so important that only with difficulty can it be supplied where it is lacking. Parents are the ones who must create a family atmosphere animated by love and respect for God and man, in which the well-rounded personal and social education of children is fostered. Hence the family is the first school of the social virtues that every society needs. It is particularly in the Christian family, enriched by the grace and office of the sacrament of matrimony, that children should be taught from their early years to have a knowledge of God according to the faith received in Baptism, to worship Him, and to love their neighbor. Here, too, they find their first experience of a wholesome human society and of the Church. Finally, it is through the family that they are gradually led to a companionship with their fellowmen and with the people of God. Let parents, then, recognize the inestimable importance a truly Christian family has for the life and progress of God’s own people.”

Once again we will be using the Sophia Institute Press  Family of Faith home-based catechetical program in conjunction with our own
Catholic Kids Connect Sunday activities!  The 2023-24 year will use Volume IV of the series, Life in Christ.

There is great information to help you teach your children at home along with all of Father Miller's monthly Parent Sessions on our Faith Formation playlist

Parents are the first and best teachers of our children in the Domestic Church of the home. St Dorothy's parish Family of Faith program assists parents in their primary role of preparing their children to worthily receive the Sacraments. And the CKC - Catholic Kids Connect  - Sunday activities will add a dash of extra fun and excitement throughout the year.

Last year's Sunday CKC days were a huge hit, and a fun and creative way to supplement the home-based catechesis taking place with parents in the home. If you are interested in volunteering to assist Mrs Barrett and crew with these Sunday activities, please call the office.

Please contact Mrs Meg Barrett our Director of Faith Formation or call the office at 704.735.5575 should you have questions or need more information.

Please be aware, you must be a registered member of the Parish to sign up for the Catechesis programs. If your family is doing home catechesis, we ask that you please sign your family up so Father will be aware of the children's sacramental needs.
