Catechesis is the act of handing on the Word of God intended to inform the faith community and candidates for initiation into the Church about the teachings of Christ, transmitted by the Apostles
to the Church.

Catechesis also involves the lifelong effort of forming people into witnesses to Christ and opening their hearts to the spiritual transformation given by the Holy Spirit.

St Dorothy's Faith Formation

Please watch this video for updated information on the 2020-21
Faith Formation and Apologetics year.

The sacraments of Christian initiation - Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist - lay the foundations of every Christian life.... The faithful are born anew by Baptism, strengthened by the sacrament of Confirmation, and receive the Eucharist as the food of eternal life. By means of these sacraments of Christian initiation, they thus receive in increasing measure the treasures of the divine life and advance toward the perfection of charity. (CCC1212)

Parents are the first and best teachers of our children in the Domestic Church of the home. St Dorothy's parish Faith Formation program supplements and assists parents in their primary role of preparing their children to worthily receive the Sacraments.

  • Faith Formation classes are offered for children from pre-k
    through 8th grade.

  • Children must be baptized before registering for Faith Formation.

  • First Holy Communion (which includes First Confession) and Confirmation require a preparation period of a minimum of 2 years, with consistent participation in Faith Formation classes, and weekly Sunday Mass attendance.

  • Older children who have not yet received their sacraments of initiation are welcome to join the Faith Formation program. Please contact Mrs Meg Barrett to discuss your family's particular needs.

  • Eighth through twelfth grade students who have received the sacrament of Confirmation are encouraged to participate in the Young Adult Apologetics gatherings each Sunday 10:30-11:45am in the Dome building.  Classes are mandatory for all eighth graders.

  • Adults who seek to come into full communion with, or just learn more about, the Catholic faith  are welcome to join Fr Miller's
RCIA group which meets once a week from September to May.

Please contact Mrs Meg Barrett our Director of Faith Formation or call the office at 704.735.5575 should you have questions or need more information.
